No, it's not too old, those calls have been around since the win3.1 days, possibly even further back.

Are you using vc++4.0, 4.1 or 4.2? don't use 4.2, the compiler had a few bugs in it. 4.1 is really the best of the 4 series.

A more likely cause is your VC++ settings. I would start over, and use the wizard to make a C DLL, NOT an MFC DLL. Then I would add the .c file to the project. That way, you know you have the right settings. That's what I did when I ported Chris's code to VC++ 5.0.
I thin the deafult settings are for an exe. If you actually link an exe, but it has a filename of .dll, you might get the problems you are seeing.
